A reader recently asked about replacing an older CrimeStopper remote key fob for his Cool Start RS-1303DP alarm/remote start system. The original remote used on that system is no longer made.

Fortunately, there is a newer keyfob from CrimeStopper that will work for that system. The new 5-button remote has FCC ID Q6WBT515201. It is Remotes Unlimited part number 071-6497. You can see and purchase the part at the following link:

A site visitor contacted Remotes Unlimited seeking a replacement remote for his aftermarket Gargoyle keyless entry alarm system. He has CrimeStopper model CS-2002DC.III. The original remote for that system is a CrimeStopper part with FCC ID OARTXAM2000. It is no longer made, but Remotes Unlimited still has 1 left in stock at this writing. It is our part number 634-1634. Once that keyfob has been sold, Remotes Unlimited should still be able to help you with a replacement. There are other remotes that will work for part 634-1634, including Remotes Unlimited part 462-1462. You can see both of these parts at the following link:
Remote 634-1634 with FCC ID OARTXAM2000 for CrimeStopper/Gargoyle system CS-2002DC.III

Remotes Unlimited also stocks replacement remote transmitters for many other CrimeStopper and Gargoyle systems. Most of these are easily programmable by the user to add a new replacement remote.

We received an inquiry from a driver with a 2006 Hyundai Tucson asking about the correct replacement remote for his vehicle. That keyfob is Remotes Unlimited part 806-1806. This 3-button remote, with a panic button on the back, has FCC ID OSLOKA-320T. Early versions of this transmitter have a red LED light at the top, but the case covers this light on the later versions. You can see and purchase this part at the following link:

Please note that Tucson vehicles which use this remote require a scan tool for programming a new remote to work with the vehicle.

Replacement Remote Key Fobs for Audiovox, Code Alarm and DEI Remote Start Systems

$

Audiovox, Code Alarm and DEI (Directed Electronics) sell remote start systems under numerous brands, including Automate, Avital, Clifford, Prestige, Pursuit, Python and Viper. Automobile dealers and also tint/alarm shops install these systems. Many blog readers comment or call us to find out where they can get replacement remotes for these systems. Remotes Unlimited offers a broad assortment of replacement keyfobs for remote start systems.

One of the most common remotes is DEI part 7111A/7111L/7111P/7111V, a 1-button remote with FCC ID EZSDEI471H. The logo varies depending on whether the system is branded Automate, Avital, Python or Viper, but the circuit board inside is the same for all of these parts. Some versions are no longer made by DEI, but Remotes Unlimited has a good inventory of these parts. See an example of the Automate remote at the following link:
Automate part 7111A – 1-button remote with FCC ID EZSDEI471H

Another common remote is the tiny 1-button Code Alarm remote with FCC ID GOH-PCMINI. This remote was used on dealer-installed remote start systems with numerous brands on the remote. See samples of this remote at the following link:
1-button remote start key fob with FCC ID GOH-PCMINI

Remotes Unlimited has these transmitters on sale for $39 each right now. (In many cases, we have gently-used B-grade keyfobs available for $24.) The systems that use these remotes are user programmable for adding a new remote. Programming instructions and free phone technical support are included with purchase.

Programming Stand-Alone Ford Keyfob Remotes To Replace Integrated Keyhead Remote Transmitters

$

0

Beginning around 2007, Ford started moving from use of stand-alone keys and remote fobs to use of an integrated part with the remote transmitter functions in the key head. In doing so, they did not change the transmitter technology for many years thereafter. So, stand-alone remotes can be used to replace the transmitter functions of a Ford keyhead part through 2014 or so.

In addition to the keyless entry transmitter technology, an integrated keyhead part has a transponder in it that interacts with the anti-theft system in the steering column. To use either a new integrated keyhead part or a stand-alone remote with one of these Ford vehicles, systems in the vehicle have to be programmed to accept the new part.

Programming a vehicle oneself to accept the anti-theft transponder in a new keyhead part involves a procedure that requires two distinct keys that already work for the vehicle. This programming procedure also supports programming of the transmitter functions.

If one is adding a stand-alone key fob remote only, a second procedure that only requires one key can be used.

Self-programming of Toyota Remote Key Fobs with FCC ID GQ43VT20T

It seems Toyota Tundra engineers went a little bonkers with respect to self-programming of factory keyless entry remotes a decade ago. Toyota used keyfobs with FCC ID GQ43VT20T on many vehicles from as early as 2004 to as late as 2017. This family of remote transmitters was used on Avalon and Solara sedans, Sienna vans, Highlander and Sequoia SUVs and Tacoma and Tundra trucks. In short, they appear on a lot of vehicles. See the many GQ43VT20T remote button configurations at the following link: Toyota Remotes with FCC ID GQ43VT20T
For many vehicle model years, these parts are user-programmable, meaning that an owner can program the vehicle him or herself to add a new remote transmitter. Up until the 2008 model year, every vehicle that used this part was user programmable. Then, for some unknown reason, Toyota changed something so that 2008 Tundras require a special computer “scan” tool for programming. The following year, Toyota switched back so that 2009 Tundra trucks were again user programmable. And then, in 2010, they switched back for good to requiring scan tool programming. This kind of flip-flopping is very unusual in the auto industry, though not unprecedented.

Maybe Toyota engineers just want to keep us all on our toes?!

Marksman (Magnadyne) Remote Key Fob with FCC ID H5OT12

A site visitor recently asked if we could replace his old Marksman remote transmitter with FCC ID H5OT12. That remote is no longer made, but it can be replaced by a newer Marksman remote with FCC ID H5OT21. You can see both remotes at the following link:
Marksman remotes

The customer also asked about programming his system to accept the new remote. Programming Magnadyne alarm systems is accomplished through the valet (shut-off) switch. If you do not have a working valet switch, Remotes Unlimited can provide that with the replacement transmitter. It is also helpful to have a working siren for the system because the audible chirps provide feedback during the programming process for a replacement transmitter.

Replacement Keyless Entry Remote for 2009 Nissan Titan

A recent website inquiry asked what remote transmitter was used on a 2009 Nissan Titan equipped with a factory keyless entry system. The original key fob used on that vehicle was Nissan part number 28268-EA00A, but that remote has been replaced by Nissan part 28268-ZT03A. The Remotes Unlimited replacement transmitter is our part number 503-1503. You can see and buy this key fob at the following link:
RUI replacement remote for 2009 Nissan Titan

As you can see from the linked page, the 4-button remote transmitter CPR-8504 will also work for the Titan. CPR-8504 is sold in most Advance Auto and Pep Boys stores at a price well below Nissan’s dealer list price. If remote CPR-8504, the trunk button will serve no function. All Nissan and Infiniti vehicles that use either of these key fobs can be programmed by the user to accept a new remote.

Replacement Remote Key Fob for Avital (DEI) Remote Access 2 System

A website visitor contacted Remotes Unlimited to ask if we could help him with a replacement remote key fob for his old Avital Remote Access 2 add-on system. Here is our response:

The Avital Remote Access 2 system uses our transmitter 223-1223, which sells for $59.00. You can see and purchase the remote at the following link:
Remote 223-1223 for Avital Remote Access 2 system

You should be able to program the system yourself to accept the new remote. We provide programming instructions and free tech support with purchase. Programming this system requires a working valet (shut-off) switch and it is helpful to have a working siren as well.

(One additional note: our 223-1223 remote may say Clifford on it. Clifford and Avital are 2 brands owned and marketed by Direct Electronics (DEI). They sold identical systems under both brands. I don’t think we have any parts left that say Avital on them, but we can check. Most of our 223-1223 parts have the Clifford brand.)

Replacing the Remote on a 2001 Kia Sportage with No Working Keyfob

$

A blog reader sent us an inquiry. His son bought a used 2001 Kia Sportage. It came with no remote key fobs, but when he unlocks the driver-side door, an alarm sounds until he puts the key in the ignition.

Here is our response to that customer:

2001 Sportage vehicles were not equipped with a factory keyless entry system. Instead, an optional system (with a Kia brand but made by Code Alarm) was installed at the port-of-entry or by a dealership. It is possible that your son’s vehicle has that system on it. It is also possible that another add-on system was installed on the vehicle, either by the dealership or by a previous owner.

The remote used with the dealer-installed system is our transmitter 086-6021. It is no longer made by Code Alarm or sold by Kia. We no longer have any new 086-6021 parts in stock, but we do have 2 used (B-grade) parts in stock, which sell for $29. I checked the 2 086-6021 B-grade parts we have in stock. They are not in great shape, but they are all that is available.

You could buy one of these parts and try to program it to the vehicle, or you could first try to confirm exactly what system is in your vehicle. To do that, you would need to locate the system’s control module. It is a black box – often about 1″ x 3″ x 4″ – and is usually installed under the dashboard on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Alarm systems also have some form of shut-off switch and often an LED light. These components are generally installed on the dashboard or just below it. If you can find one of these components, follow the wire from it to the control module. There you should find some kind of identifying information, such as a brand and model number. That is generally the most useful information for identifying an otherwise unknown alarm system in a vehicle.

We have remotes available for most add-on systems. If you locate the control module, I suggest you call with the information and speak with one of our call center personnel. He or she will be able to help you identify exactly which remote you need. Our call center is open from 8am-6pm Central time M-F and from 9am-3pm on Saturday.

In order to program a new remote to work with the system, you will need to use the valet (shut-off) switch. Given the age of the vehicle, it might be wise to check and make sure you have a working valet switch. If you do not, we can provide that as well. Programming instructions and free phone tech support are included with each part.

Replacement Remote Key Fob for 1999 Ford F-150 Truck with a Dealer-Installed System

A customer recently contacted Remotes Unlimited to inquire about getting a replacement remote for his 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck. His old remote had stopped working entirely after many years of service.

He contacted us by phone because the remote shown on our website for a 1999 Ford F-150 truck did not look like his original. The reason for this is that his truck was not equipped with a keyless entry system when it was shipped from the factory. Instead, the dealer sold an add-on “dealer-installed” keyless entry system to the first owner. That system was not the same as the factory system and uses a different remote. This is a fairly common situation.

When the customer went to our website, he saw the listing shown at the link below for our part number 343-1343:
1999 Ford F-150 Factory System Remote

Instead, his aftermarket system was made for Ford by Code Alarm. It uses a remote with FCC ID GOH-3BFM2497. As soon as we determined this, we knew the part he was looking for is our part 675-1675. Code Alarm stopped supplying this part several years ago. Fortunately, we still had a B-Grade (gently used) part in stock, so we were able to solve the customer’s problem. You can see the Code Alarm part at the following link:
Part 675-1675 – Ford dealer-installed system remote with FCC ID GOH-3BFM2497

As it happens, Kia sourced a similar dealer-installed system from Code Alarm (also having remotes with FCC ID GOH-3BFM2497) that use the same circuit board in a Kia-branded case. That part also is no longer made, but Remotes Unlimited has a few used transmitters for the Kia system as well. Unfortunately, once these used remotes are sold, many customers may not have an option for getting a replacement transmitter for these older dealer-installed Code Alarm systems.

1996 Jeep Cherokee vehicles use an infra-red remote transmitter. Remotes Unlimited offers two different replacement options for this expensive Jeep key fob (with a dealer list price is well over $200).

One is a new aftermarket replacement remote, which we sell for $119.00. It is our part number 083-6005. You can see and buy this part on our website at the following link: RUI part 083-6005.

The second option is a gently used (B-grade) Jeep original equipment part. Our price for that part is $79.00. This part is not currently offered on our website, so if you are interested in a B-grade OE part, please call our office at 281-820-0300 and choose option 2 for sales.

The keyless entry systems in 1996 Jeep Cherokee vehicles are user programmable, so you will be able to program your vehicle yourself to accept the new transmitter.

We recently received an inquiry about “manufacturer part number T612S434”.

Part number T612S434 (or, more accurately, FCC ID VVJ-T612S434) appears on two discontinued CrimeStopper (Cool Start) remote transmitters — a 1-button remote start transmitter and a 5-button alarm system transmitter. Remotes Unlimited offers gently used (B-grade) remotes for both of these parts. You can see both parts and select the one you need by searching FCC ID VVJ-T612S434 on our website.

We also stock brand new remote transmitter part 071-6497, which will work as a substitute for either of these parts. You can see and buy this part at the following link: RUI (Cool Start) part 071-6497

Remote Key Fobs with FCC ID ELVATDD for Toyota Port-Installed Keyless Entry Systems

We received an inquiry recently about a replacement remote with FCC ID ELVATDD for a 2005 Toyota Sequoia.

Through 2010 or so, Toyota used port-installed keyless entry systems on many imported vehicles that did not have factory-installed systems. Some of these, including many Sequoia vehicles use a remote transmitter with FCC ID ELVATDD and 3 buttons, including one with the rear window roll-down icon. That remote is no longer made. Toyota does still supply the 2-button version of this remote that only has lock and unlock buttons. Remotes Unlimited stocks that key fob as our part 092-6435. You can see the 3-button original transmitter and purchase the 2-button replacement remote at the following link:
2-button and 3-button Toyota remotes with FCC ID ELVATDD

Remotes Unlimited also carries B-grade (gently used) part inventory of the 2-button ELVATDD remote at a price of $20.00 each. These parts are not available for purchase on our website, but you can call us at 281-820-0300 (or toll-free in the US at 877-719-1900) and choose option 2 to purchase by phone.

Programming instructions and free phone technical support are included with purchase.

Key Fob Remote for 2001 GMC Sonoma with Factory Keyless Entry System

A reader recently asked for help determining the correct keyless entry remote transmitter for his 2001 Sonoma. This is an excellent question because 2001 Sonoma vehicles used two different factory keyless entry systems with visually similar but non-compatible remote transmitters.

For the 1st build (vehicles built through February 2001), factory-installed systems use GM part number 15732803 with FCC ID KOBUT1BT (equivalent to Remotes Unlimited part 517-1517). Replacement key fob for GM part number 15732803 with FCC ID KOBUT1BT

For the 2nd build (vehicles built during or after March 2001), factory systems use GM part 15042968 with FCC ID KOBLEAR1XT (equivalent to our part 514-1514). Replacement key fob for GM part 15042968 with FCC ID KOBLEAR1XT

If you have your original remote, you can look on the back of the transmitter and match the FCC ID or OE part number to determine which Remotes Unlimited part you need. In the event you do not have an original transmitter, you can find the build date of your vehicle on the GM manufacturing sticker or send us your VIN and we can determine the part you need.

The keyless entry system in all 2001 Sonoma vehicles can be programmed by a user to accept a new remote. Remotes Unlimited includes programming instructions and free phone technical support with purchase of a keyfob.

Replacement Factory Keyless Entry Remote Transmitters for Nissan 3-button Key Fobs with FCC ID KBRASTU10

$

A site visitor wrote to our blog asking about a replacement remote for his 3-button Nissan remote keyfob with FCC ID KBRASTU10. Unfortunately, the KBRASTU10 remotes were a poor design and pose a lot of confusion for customers trying to buy the correct replacement remote. There are three different parts (models). Only one of these has a replacement remote that is different and better made than the original KBRASTU10 part. In order to know which remote one has, you have to look on the back of your original remote.

If your original part shows a Nissan part number ending in 2W602 and no model number, then it is no longer made and Nissan dealers are very unlikely to have it in stock. Remotes Unlimited does not have any in inventory at this time.

If your original part shows a part number ending in 2W601 or 5W505 and model /A on the back, it is our part 720-1720. We do have both new and used 720-1720 remotes in stock. If you want to try buying a used replacement part to see if it operates better than your current remote, you will need to call us (at 281-820-0300) because we do not sell the used part on our website.

If your original remote shows a part number ending in 7Z460 or model /01A on the back, it is our part 501-1501. That part can be replaced by a newer replacement remote, which is our part 503-1503.

All vehicles that originally used a KBRASTU10 remote can be programmed by the user to accept a new transmitter.

Replacement Toyota Port/Dealer-Installed Keyless Entry System Remote Transmitter with FCC ID ELVATDD

$

A reader with a 2006 Toyota Sequoia asked about a replacement for his remote keyfob with FCC ID ELVATDD.

Through 2010 or so, Toyota used port-installed keyless entry systems on many imported vehicles that did not have factory-installed systems. Some of these, including many Sequoia vehicles, use a remote transmitter with FCC ID ELVATDD and 4 buttons. Others used a 3-button ELVATDD key fob. Both of these parts have been discontinued by Toyota.

The Remotes Unlimited part number for the original 4-button remote is 289-1289. The button functions are lock, unlock and rear window roll-down on the front and panic on the back. The 3-button version of this remote is RUI part 092-6435. It can replace the 4-button part used on Sequoia vehicles, but the rear window function will be lost. Remotes Unlimited stocks gently used (B-Grade) 092-6435 remotes for the value price of $24.00.

You can see the 4-button original transmitter and purchase a B-Grade 3-button replacement remote at the following link:
3-button and 4-button Toyota remotes with FCC ID ELVATDD

Toyota has recently added a new 3-button dealer-installed remote transmitter. It has a different FCC ID — ELVATRF — and a different circuit board, but it will replace the old 3-button remote with FCC ID ELVATDD. You can see and purchase this new RUI remote with part number 092-7331 for $49.00 at the following link:
RUI part 092-7331 with FCC ID ELVATRF
